Virginia Dare Extract Co. | Carteret, NJ
After nearly 100 years in the flavor creation business, Virginia Dare Extract Company was interested in opening a new headquarters location. Engineering Driven Design PC, Arcari & Iovino Architects, and Automation Concepts worked together to design a 130,000 square foot, state-of-the-art laboratory and production facility. The new headquarters would house expanded operations, office and warehouse space. Features of the production areas include: flammable liquid compounding rooms,, a vanilla processing plant, an emulsion area, a series of ribbon blending rooms, a small batches area, processing rooms for teas and coffees, a storage warehouse, and a shipping and received area with twelve loading docks.
The warehouse was designed as flammable liquid storage space, adhering to strict safety guidelines. The Vanilla processing area was designed to be electrically classified to prevent potential fire and explosion catastrophes. An emergency generator and a waste neutralization system were also included with the facility fit-out designs. In addition to design phase services, Engineering Driven Design provided support during the bidding process, as well as administration of the construction contract.
